2005 Board of Directors Election

August 30, 2004

Dear E-911 Institute Member:

The E-911 Institute was formed to support the Congressional E9-1-1 Caucus and assist in promoting public education on E9-1-1 and emergency communications issues.  When the Institute was formed last year, an interim Board of Directors was established to start the organization, assist the Executive Director in managing the Institute, and establish a process for the election of a new Board of Directors.  At their May 2004 meeting, the interim Board adopted a process for this election along with a time-line to install a new Board of Directors by September, 2004.

Over the past several weeks, we have received nominations from our membership for the Board of Directors election.  The new Board will be comprised of 13 members.  Four of these members are permanent and not elected:  APCO, NENA, NASNA and the Executive Director of the E9-1-1 Institute.   Each public safety organization has a member that is appointed by that organization. The other 9 members will be representatives from the following constituencies:

  • One person from the wireless (CMRS) industry;
  • One person representing a major telecommunication company;
  • One person representing a small telecommunication company;
  • One representative from a vendor/integrator/software company;
  • One person from other non-profit organizations involved in public health or public safety issues;
  • One person from an accredited college or university; and
  • Three people from the membership at-large.

The Institute received nominations for the above Board of Director positions and the Election Committee of the Board has verified that each nominee is eligible to represent the constituency for which they were nominated.  Please review the attached ballot carefully.  The ballot contains two distinct sections: (i) selection for 3 at-large positions (Ballot A), and (ii) selection for various industry and non-profit positions (Ballot B).  All members of the Institute are eligible to vote for the at-large positions, i.e. Ballot A.  Ballot B is open for individuals that are represented through a particular sector not represented by one of the permanent board seats (held by APCO, NENA, or NASNA).  Institute members who are affiliated with one of the categories specified in Ballot B should select one category to cast their vote for representation on the Board of Directors.  Individuals who do not fall into any of the categories identified in Ballot B are automatically then represented on the Board by the permanent Board seats.

Election results will be announced at the E9-1-1 Institute’s Technology Fair Reception on Tuesday, September 21st.  Newly elected Board members will take office at the conclusion of that announcement.

If you have any questions regarding this Board of Directors election, please contact Erica Orange at erica.orange@e911institute.org or call 202-292-4603.

Sincerely,

Gregory L. Rohde, Executive Director
