Dear E-911
Institute Member:
The
E-911 Institute works in conjunction with the
Congressional E9-1-1 Caucus
to promote public education on E9-1-1 and emergency
communications issues. The Institute’s operations are overseen
by a Board of Directors, working closely with the Executive
Director.
The E9-1-1 Institute Board has been comprised of thirteen
members. Four of these seats are permanent seats: They are
held by an APCO, NENA, & NASNA
appointed representative and the
Executive Director of the E9-1-1 Institute. The
other nine members are representatives from the following
constituencies. They each serve 2-year terms:
·
One person
from the wireless (CMRS) industry;
·
One person
representing a major telecommunication company;
·
One person
representing a small telecommunication company;
·
One
representative from a vendor/integrator/software company;
·
One person
from other non-profit organizations involved in public health or
public safety issues;
·
One person
from an accredited college or university; and
·
Three people
from the membership at large.
This year,
the E9-1-1 Institute Board of Directors, upon the recommendation
of the Nomination Committee, has determined that two (2)
additional seats should be added to the E9-1-1 Institute Board
of Directors. A second seat for a representative from a
vendor/integrator/software company has been added and a new seat
has been created for a representative of an IP-Enabled service
provider.
Each year, the E9-1-1 Institute holds an election for the Board
of Directors. However, the seats up for election each year are
staggered to maintain consistency and prevent a large turn over
of the Board in one year. The following six (6) seats are open
for 2007-2008 election this year:
·
One (1)
non-profit representative;
·
One (1)
small telecommunications company;
·
Two (2)
vendor/integrator/software representatives;
·
One (1)
IP-Enabled service provider representative;
·
One (1)
membership at large.
A Small
Telecommunications Company is defined as an incumbent Local
Exchange Carrier that has less than 2% of the nation’s access
lines or a Commercial Mobile Radio Service provider that meets
the definition of a Tier 1 or Tier II carrier in the FCC Docket
No. 94-102.
An IP
Enabled Service Provider is an entity that meets the definition
of a provider of Interconnected VoIP Service as defined in
Section 9.3 of the rules of the FCC (47 C.F.R. 9.3)
The current
Board Members representing the seats up for re-election are:
·
Mr. Mike
Rawson, Membership at Large
·
Mr. David
Aylward, Non-Profit Organization
·
Mr. Art
Prest, Small Telecommunications Company
·
Ms. Mary
