January 18, 2007 - The E9-1-1 Institute hosted an E9-1-1 Summit at the Emergency Communication and Notification Solution for Government & Business Conference; San Jose, California.

Introduction:  Due to recent extreme emergencies such as Katrina, government leaders have been reminded of the urgent need for emergency communication and notification solutions. During a crisis situation and to support continuity of critical government functions, it is important to send emergency action messages to thousands of email addresses, cell phones, BlackBerry’s and other wireless devices quickly. The ability to communicate during a catastrophic or man-made disaster is crucial to save the lives of our citizens and restore critical public and government functions.

The goal of the
"Emergency Communication and Notification Solutions for Government and Business” was to inform federal, DoD, state and local and business leaders on current trends and directions in this important sector. Government and commercial case studies will profile best practices. Industry will report on this important sector, trends, directions and emerging solutions – all geared to assist government and commercial emergency response planners as they prepare to define needs and requirements.

The E9-1-1 Summit consisted of two panel discussions.   Panels members and presentations were as follows:
