E9-1-1 Institute hosts Next Generation 9-1-1
Roundtable on
Capitol Hill:
The purpose of the roundtable is to discuss the
future of emergency communications,
specifically 9-1-1 in an increasingly wireless society.
Jenny Hansen, Project Coordinator for the
Next Generation 9-1-1 Project at the US Department of
Transportation, will provide a short presentation on the current
work being done. Panelists will also include Susan McGurkin from
Intrado, Tim Lorello from TCS, Patrick Halley from National
Emergency Number Association (NENA), and Steve Marzolf from Virginia
Information Technologies Agency. E9-1-1 Institute Executive
Director Gregory L. Rohde will moderate.

E9-1-1 Institute hosts Homeland Security Forum on Capitol Hill:
On
Thursday July 28th the E9-1-1 Institute along with the offices of
Senator Conrad Burns (R-MT), Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY),
Representative Anna Eshoo (D-CA) and Representative John Shimkus
(R-IL) will be hosting a policy roundtable on Capitol Hill titled
“Homeland Security and 9-1-1.”

and deploying interoperable emergency data messaging, using national
message and data standards, commercial information technologies, and a
shared, electronic directory of agencies known as the Emergency
Provider Access Directory (EPAD).

E9-1-1 Institute Program to Focus on 9-1-1 Access over VoIP:
The E9-1-1 Institute hosted a Roundtable discussion on Capitol Hill
to examine 9-1-1 access over VoIP services. A representative
from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC)
discussed the recent decision by the government
of Canada to require that all VoIP carriers provide access to
9-1-1 services.
