The NG9-1-1 Institute Honors Our Heroes & Leaders
on the 10th Anniversary of September 11th

We remember the many dedicated men and women who rushed
to the Twin Towers in New York, the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania to
risk their own lives to attend to the victims of this horrible attack. Further,
let us not forget the first responders who took the emergency calls, dispatched the fire fighter, police, and paramedics and other emergency services to the scenes.

September 11th should not simply become a day of remembrance of a tragedy. It should also become a day to remind us how important the men and women who serve our communities and country as emergency call takers and first responders.

The NG 9-1-1 Institute expresses our gratitude and appreciation for the entire emergency response professional community. We honor and thank you, not just on the anniversary, but every day.

APRIL IS NATIONAL EDUCATION MONTH

Last night, April 14, 2010, the Senate passed S.  Res. 482 recognizing
April 2010
as "National 9-1-1 Education Month."

The Measure was co-sponsored by the E9-1-1 Caucus Co-Chairs Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Senator Richard Burr (R-NC).

_______________

Effective 9-1-1 education is critical AT ALL AGES.  We encourage you to join us in our efforts to promote education throughout the month of April.

Arrange a school visit to your local PSAP, ask representatives from your local PSAP to visit your school, hold a street fair or block party, offer
to go to your child's or grandchild’s class and read about 9-1-1.

WE ALL NEED TO GET INVOLVED!

We can never do enough to educate the public about 9-1-1.  The commitment of this impressive coalition of public safety and industry in dedicating time and effort to advance 9-1-1 education will help save lives and will produce a significant return on whatever effort is made.

In addition to school-based activities, other ideas include
conferences and training events for parents, teachers, care-givers that bring together the public safety community and industry leaders in a common effort to promote 9-1-1 education.

The national kick-off event in Washington, DC will occur on April 9, 2010.  The 9-1-1 Block Party will be sponsored by the Office of Unified
Communications at the Ferebee-Hope Community School in the
District of Columbia Public Schools

Legislation Introduced

The E9-1-1 Institute Announces Board of Directors
Election Results

The E9-1-1 Institute shares the mission of  the Congressional E9-1-1 Caucus to promote public education on E9-1-1 and emergency communications issues.  The E9-1-1 Institute’s operations are overseen by a Board of Directors, working closely with the Executive and Deputy Executive Director.

The E9-1-1 Institute Board of Directors is comprised of  fifteen members.  Four of these seats are permanent seats:  They are held by an APCO, NENA, & NASNA appointed representative and the Executive Director of the E9-1-1 Institute.  The other eleven members are representatives from the following constituencies.  They each serve 2-year terms:

Each year, the E9-1-1 Institute holds an election for the Board of Directors.   However, the seats up for election each year are staggered to maintain consistency and prevent a large turnover of the Board in one year.
